Happy Birthday Oma Elly

This is embarrassingly belated but my sweet Oma Elly’s birthday was last Friday. We love this woman! And miss her wonderful food. So Elly. Ik foutje gemaakt! FOUT!!!

Hartelijk Gefeleciteerd Oma Elly

Last weekend we took our first road trip out to Irvine/Newport Beach to see Danica and Chris. I was really nervous about driving with an infant but after a quick lunch Mike and I picked up a recently fed happy baby from daycare and hit the road. We made very good time. When she got fussy we just stopped for a few minutes at convenient rest stops (that we just happened to be passing when she got fussy! good timing!!).

We drove out of the heat into perfect weather!

Danica’s parents graciously lent us their house. Amazing people! Not only did we save gobs of money but it made the trip that much more relaxing. We didn’t have to worry about a fridge or microwave or purified water etc. Of course it helped that their house was beautifully decorated and just recently remodeled. I think Mike salivated over the gas stove.

Saturday we had an easy morning and Danica and Chris gave me the tour of their place. Such a cute little place and in a wonderful location. It’ll be the perfect place for their little boy!!! The rest of the day was spent at her family’s beach house. I hadn’t relaxed like that for a very long time. Such a wonderful day at the beach with perfect weather and great company. Brenna was such a good sport. She played in the sand and took a long nap in her tent. She didn’t like the water since it was pretty cold but I thought it was pretty refreshing. Danica’s aunts and cousins took care of dinner. Delicious!

Sunday after breakfast we hit the road. Stopped for lunch at Denny’s but again made it home in good time. What a wonderful weekend!

The next time we see Danica and Chris they’ll be a family of three!! So excited to be an Auntie to a nephew! They don’t have a name picked out yet but there’s plenty of time.

I have some ideas: (my vote is Cayce for the middle name – which is a family name from the Golden side).
